Science surrounds us. It is in the nature that sustains us; it is in the world of technology that we create. Science should certainly be studied simply to learn as much as we can about the world around us. However, science also provides us with a disciplined approach to the thinking that  benefits us in most, if not all, of our endeavors. 

The scientific method is built upon the problem-solving skills of deductive and inductive reasoning fueled by an insatiable curiosity that leads us to meaningful innovation. In science, we seek out challenges, construct hypotheses, test with evidence, re-test to confirm results, and plan for the future. 

Spark Academy emphasizes this method of inquiry throughout the curriculum. Spark is a place where learning is understood to be inspired by curiosity and a sense of exploration, structured through disciplined thinking, and framed in the context of an integrated understanding of the human journey.

Our students study physical science, biology, and chemistry within the Spark curriculum. Options for continued study are offered through the Manchester Community College system. Students do not pay for MCC courses as duel credit with Spark. 

Science in the Age of Remote Learning

An expression we have heard over and over again in recent months is that "we live in challenging times." Challenges are not necessarily a negative. In fact, it is challenge that leads us to work to improve our world,  making is a better, safer, and more just place for all. 

Remote learning certainly is challenging us to re-examine the very nature of education. Our science program now incorporates Labster as a means of providing our students with lab experiences whenever they need them and as often as they need them. In combination with in-person instruction, Labster provides the repetition and reinforcement that instructional technology can add to our learning experience. 

It's a matter of using the best technology in the best way in order to achieve the best results.
